WHITE SULPHUR BAPTIST CHURCH MINUTES





Notes from the minutes of the United Baptist Church of Christ at White Sulphur Springs,
Caldwell County, Kentucky.

The minute books were borrowed from the clerk, Eugene Jones, of Princeton, Ky.,
these notes were taken by R.C. Sheridan on August 8-9, 1969.

All names listed below are Richard's relatives but he contributed the file in hopes that
others would also find family members in it.

The church was organized in 1854, but no family names were found in the records until 1866.

Nov. 26, 1866.   After a protracted meeting which lasted 13 days, 16 were added to the church:
Robert A. Williamson, Matilda Williamson, Horace Williamson, Rhoda Williamson,
and Henry Bell and others.

Jan. 1867.   Robert A. Williamson was charged with rioting and drunkenness, and he was excluded
from the church in March 1867, after these charges were proven.

Saturday before the second Sunday in December, 1868   After a protracted meeting of 12 days,
Sister Elizabeth Lane was received by letter from Mount Olivet church, Wilson County, Tenn. and
Alfred Williamson, Sulada A. Williamson, E. M. Norman, C. C. K. Williamson and J. M. Coleman
joined the church by profession and baptism.

Monday night, October 4, 1869.  After a protracted meeting of 17 days, Zachariah Williamson,
J. W. Williamson, and others joined the church for baptism.

March, 1870.  Salley Tirey was received by letter from Prosperity Church, Wilson County, Tennessee.

October, 1870.   Bro. Green Bright was received by letter from the Baptist Church, Trailing Creek,
Wilson County, Tennessee and Sister Artimesa Williamson was received upon profession.

August, 1871.   Horace Williamson was excluded for profane swearing

March, 1873.   Zachariah Williamson was forgiven for drunkenness.

April, 1874   J. W. Williamson was excluded for drunkenness.

March, 1880.   Zack Williamson was excluded for drunkenness.

November, 1879.   J. W. Williamson was excluded for drunkenness.

Sept., 1886.   J. W. Williamson was restored to membership.

November, 1886.  James W. williamson and wife were granted letters of dismission.

Jan., 1887  Bro. J. W. Williamson, cen. was excused, and Sister Lucy Wilds was granted
a letter of dismission.

June, 1887.   Bro. Henry Bell and wife were granted letters of dismission.

First Lord's Day in August, 1887.   Rev. J. W. Oliver met the church and a very large audience
at the water near the church house and proceeded to baptize 15 candidates, the result of a meeting
held by him at Freewill Schoolhouse, who joined the church from time to time as opportunities were
given. Names of candidates: Annie Sheridan, Matilda Coleman, Jimmie Williamson, Nannie Williamson,
Charlie Roland, Austin Williamson, Clarence Lowery, Louisa Sheridan, Lee Farmer, Martha Coleman,
and others.
