Males were usually apprenticed until the age of 21 and
females until the age of 16 or 18. The following were 
abstracted from Indentures of Apprenticeship, Book 1  
Crittenden County, KY County Clerk's Office, Marion, KY

12 Dec 1842     Lucinda Elvina Jarrell, age 16 on 25
Dec 1850, apprenticed to Sarah Jarrell to learn the 
trade of a spinster and to serve until 25 Dec 1850.

10 Apr 1843     Berry Brinsfield, infant of Wm. Brinsfield
(dec'd), age 15 in May 1843, apprenticed to George T. Mayes
to learn the trade of a farmer until 1 May 1849, when Berry
will be age 21.

8 May 1843       John G. Lofton, age 16 on 29 May 1844, 
apprenticed to Wm. H. Rochester to learn the trade of a 
blacksmith.

13 Nov 1843      John Lewis Nuckles, now about age 8,
apprenticed to Peter Clinton to learn the trade of a farmer
until 13 Nov 1843, when John L. will be age 21 [sic].

13 Nov 1843      William Nuckles, about age 12, apprenticed
to Herrington Stevens to learn the trade of a farmer until 
he is age 21.

8 Jan 1844       John L. Nuckles, about age 8, apprenticed
to John S. Elder to learn the trade of a farmer until Jan
1857, when he will be age 21.

12 Feb 1844      George Samples, about age 8, apprenticed
to Wm. Samples to learn the trade of a farmer until 12 Feb
1858, when he will be age 21.

12 Feb 1844      Andrew Samples, about age 11, apprenticed
to Wm. B. Clement to learn the trade of a farmer until 12
Feb 1855, when he will be age 21.

12 Feb 1844      Marion Samples, about age 10, apprenticed
to Wm. B. Clement to learn the trade of a farmer until 12
Feb 1856, when he will be age 21.

11 Mar 1844      Job Chenalt, age 12 on 6 Apr 1844, 
apprenticed to Wm. Smith to learn the trade of a farmer until
1853, when he will be age 21.

13 May 1844      Thursey Ann Huff, age 16 on 12 Aug 1848,
apprenticed to George W. Jones to learn the trade of a
spinster until 12 Aug 1848.     

10 Jun 1844      James Fuller, age 5 about the first of
July next, apprenticed to A.B. Yarnell to learn the trade
of farming until 1 Jul 1860, when he will be age 21.

9 Sep 1844       Samuel Newton Felker, age 10 on 10 Mar
1845, apprenticed to John Deboe to learn the trade of a
farmer until 1856, when h e will be age 21.

9 Sep 1844       Jane Ferrill, about age 9, apprenticed to
Jno. P. Beals to learn the trade of a spinster until 9
Sep 1851, when she will be age 16.
 
9 Dec 1844       Andrew J. Samples apprenticed to James
R. Cole to learn the trade of a farmer until he is age 21.

11 Aug 1845      Andrew Ferrell, age 12 on 1 Oct 1845, 
apprenticed to Jeremiah Lucus to learn the trade of a farmer
until he is age 21.

13 Jan 1845      William Thomas Barrett, age 14 in May 1845,
apprenticed to James C. Love to learn the trade of a farmer
until 1 May 1852, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845       Sarah Marvel, age 11 on 14 Oct 1845, 
apprenticed to Wm. Flanary to learn the trade of a spinster 
until 14 Oct 1852, when she will be age 18.

11 Aug 1845      Manerva Ferrell, age 6 on 1 Apr 1846, 
apprenticed to Jeremiah Lucus to learn the trade of a spinster
until 1 Apr 1856, when she will be age 16.

9 Jun 1845       Amandy Jane Alton, age 15 in 1857, 
apprenticed to Jesse J. Greenlee to learn the trade of a
spinster.

14 Jul 1845      Jane Ferrell, age 10 on 1 Sep 1845, 
apprenticed to B.M.G. Heath to learn the trade of a spinster
until 1 Sep 1851, when she will be age 16.

13 Jan 1845     John H. Barrett, age 12 on 10 May 1845,
apprenticed to Jesse B. Champion to learn the trade of 
farming until 10 May 1854, when he will be age 21.

13 Jan 1845     Thomas Jefferson Barrett, age 7 on 22 Jun
1845, apprenticed to Bennett W. Barnes to learn the trade
of farming until 22 June 1861, when he will be age 21.

10 Feb 1845     Samuel Newton Felker apprenticed to Isaac
Felker to learn the trade of farming until 1 Mar 1856, when
he will be age 21.

10 May 1845     Joseph Pickens, age 21 in four years,
apprenticed to H.R.L. Coleman to learn the trade of a farmer
until 1849, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     John Weber, age 14 on 1 Jun 1846,
apprenticed to Wm. B. Hickman to learn the trade of a farmer
until 1853, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     Ephraim R. Marvel, age 8 on 22 July 1845,
apprenticed to John W. Ashley to learn the trade of a farmer
until 22 July 1858, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     Steven  Marvel, age 9 on 5 Oct 1845,
apprenticed to Sidney K. Lucus to learn the trade of a
farmer until 1857, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     Josephus Marvel, age 16 in 1845, apprenticed
to Samuel Ashley to learn the trade of a farmer until 
9 Jun 1851, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     John Marvel, age 13 on 3 Sep 1845, 
apprenticed to B.S. Young to learn the trade of a farmer
until 3 Sep 1852, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     Samuel N. Marvel, age 3 on 5 Nov 1845,
apprenticed to Ely Marvel to learn the trade of a farmer
until 5 Nov 1861.

8 Sep 1845      Susan W. Stephenson, age 6 on 16 Jan 1845,
apprenticed to David N. Stinson to learn the trade of a
spinster until 16 Jan 1856, when she will be age 16.

8 Sep 1845     John B. Stephenson, age 12 on 24 Jul 1846,
apprenticed to David N. Stinson to learn the trade of a
farmer until 24 July 1855, when he will be age 21.

9 Jun 1845     John Alton, age 21 in June 1864, apprenticed
to Jesse Greenlee to learn the trade of a farmer until 
age 21.
