The date of the organization of this church is unknown at this time, but it is thought it was organized between 1840 and 1850. Among the charter members were Jackson Curlee, Susan Curlee, and Jane Townsend. The ground to build the church upon was donated by Allen Rayborn and Jackson Curlee.
According to the first records they have, that of 1876, there were 65 members.

In 1905 this church had the largest membership ever 187. After a revival there were 39 joined at that time.
Union Association has met with Free Union Church four times; In 1853, in 1884, in 1891, and in 1905.
In 1944 the Women's One Day Missionary Convention met with the church; also a Sunday School was organized this year and the church went to half time services. In 1946 the Ministers' and Deacons' meeting was held with the church.
In March, 1951, Carville Clark was ordained a deacon. The present membership is 65.
