Rev. J. F. Bumpus

Rev. J. F. Bumpus
The. Rev. Bumpus was born November 26, 1861; was converted and joined the Copperas Spring General Baptist Church, of Webster county; later he joined the Little Zion General Baptist Church, and remained a loyal member until he was called to his reward.

Soon after joining the church he felt the call to preach, and preached his first sermon in the spring of 1886 at winter's school house; was ordained to the full work of the ministry November 22, 1886.

He witnessed a great number of conversions, and probably baptized more converts than any other minister of Union Association during his day. He was a noted evangelist throughout Union Association, and did a great work in that field of endeavor, working quite a lot with Rev. A. B. Stone, Rev. W. A. Miller, and others.

During his ministry he organized several churches, and was a champion of the General Baptist Faith and Practice. Truly his works do follow him.
