REV. WALTER RAY DORRIS


The Rev. Dorris was born in 1903; converted at the age of 19, and joined the White Oak General Baptist church; was baptized in the Tradewater river by the Rev. W. T. Winstead.

He felt the call to preach and fought the call for ten years, but finally answered the call in 1935 and preached his first sermon under a brush harbor at the close of Rev. C. H. Howard's meeting.

he was ordained the third Sunday in November, 1948, at White oak church. He preached his first funeral sermon ten days later, that of an aunt.

He was called to pastor his first church in 1949 -- Gum Grove General Baptist church, near providence, Ky., and pastored there for two years. In 1950 he was called to pastor Oakley Home General Baptist church, for half time. In 1952 he was called to pastor Pleasant Grove General Baptist church, for half time, and at the time of this writing he is giving full time to these two churches.

He has no record of the sermons he has preached. He has baptized nine, and conducted five funerals. He has been a "Son of the King" for 31 years.
