An Indenture was made for 100 Acres of land on 12-29-1873 and I hope to have someone tell me from this deed of indenture where in Livingston Co., Ky. that it was located.
Also the name of the tavern that Charles operated in Smithland, Ky. between Dec.,29, 1873 and Dec. 29, 1876

Charles F. "C. F." Johns and wife Sara Jane (Fisher) Johns moved to Livingston Co., Ky on or about Dec. 10, 1873 . They bought a tract of land near the river and Sara continued to live there after Charles death in Dec. 29, 1876 in Smithland. Charles is believed to have been buried in the Sand Hill Cemetery near Smithland.

Sara and daughters Sallie, Clara Belle, Cora Lee and Laura continued to live on the property thru the 1880 federal census. They are listed in District 80 as Jane Johns and the above listed daughters.

Before April 16, 1887 Sarah died, as her will was executed on that date in the county indicating she was dead.

Charles Johns ran a tavern in Smithland in the 1870's and as the family legend goes, that is why Sara Jane wanted the girls to grow up in Paducah. Don't know if it was the Gower House or if there was another tavern in town in 1870's.

This may be the same Charles Johns who served with the Confederate forces in the 12th Ky. Cav Co. B. Prior to moving to Smithland the Johns family lived in Union City, Obion Co Tenn. The 12th Ky Cav. Co B was made up of soldiers from Obion,Weakley and Madison Co. Tn. This unit fought in the battle of Paducah.

Their daughter Clara Belle Johns married Charles A Grimm in Paducah and were my grandmothers parents.
My mom, Shirley Yarboro Bailey still lives in Paducah and Clara and Charles were her grandparents.

I ask anyone with more info on my Johns family to contact me.
