Our Tribute to
Edison Thomas


 

On June 1, 2002 one of our LBL-Pals celebrated his 90th
birthday in grand style!

Edison's birthday bash was celebrated at the Valley Station Baptist Church in Valley Station, Kentucky on June 1, 2002. Edison's 90th birthday was actually June 5th.
There were 68 members and friends of the family in attendance, including Sue Stewart from the LBL PALS. One son, Dwayne Garrett was the MC and another son, Ron Garrett narrated a slide presentation on Edison's life. It included many family member pictures that gave everyone a chance to reminisce about Edison. His daughter, Barbara Read, gave a testamonial and quoted a poem, "Discovery" by May Gray.

 There were testimonials and performances by grandchildren and friends during the program. Sons, Ron and Dwayne Garrett made the presentation of the beautiful plaque in the shape of Kentucky from the LBL PALS. Edison was truly moved by the gracious thoughts that went behind giving him this honor.

The smaller plate to the left is positioned in the area of Trigg County and is inscribed with
Edison's date of birth, "June 5, 1912".
The LBL-Pals also placed an ad in Edison's hometown newspaper, The Cadiz Record, which included a tribute poem and photo of Edison in his younger, Navy days.
